PC Financial® Resilience Project Accelerator awards Southern Alberta Institute of Technology for Project UpSkill at Enactus National Competition

Driving impactful change to underserved communities with the voluntary support and counsel of PC Financial® team members

(TORONTO, ON) May 15, 2024 - Today, the PC Financial® Resilience Project Accelerator proudly announces Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT) as the recipient of the 2024 Best Project title at the Enactus Canada National Exposition. The winning project, named Project Upskill, developed by an Alberta-based team, aims to deliver financial literacy workshops to men in addiction recovery programs in partnership with Simon House.

The annual three-day competition offers post-secondary student-led teams the opportunity to develop and present empowerment projects. Each project outlines how they aim to positively shape Canada’s economic, social and environmental future. Teams receive personalized guidance and mentorship from a PC Financial® team member who serves as an advisor throughout the process.

"In my three years with the Enactus program, I've witnessed remarkable community transformations led by passionate university students," remarked Kristen Quayle, Senior Director at PC® Insurance. "From my initial role as a judge, where I was captivated by innovative projects at regional competitions, to now serving as an advisor, I've seen firsthand the power of student-led initiatives."

The winning initiative, “Project Upskill”, by The Southern Alberta Institute of Technology, aims to empower individuals in addiction-recovery programs with the resources, education and support necessary to build strong foundations for their future, including financial stability. In collaboration with Simon House, Project Upskill designed and delivers workshops aimed at fostering financial literacy, facilitated by professionals from both organizations. This partnership also facilitates connections between program participants and financial institutions, empowering them to cultivate responsibility over their overall well-being, including financial health.

"Our collaboration with Enactus, bolstered by our dedicated PC Financial team, reaffirms our commitment to nurturing a brighter economic future," said Ian Hanning, Chief Financial Officer at PC Financial®. "Empowering young leaders to drive change and advocate for financial literacy are crucial for fostering transformative leadership nationwide. Congratulations to the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology for their exemplary demonstration of equipping individuals within addition-recovery programs with the tools and knowledge to achieve financial wellness. PC Financial commends your efforts and eagerly anticipates the positive impact on communities."
