What is spoofing and how can I protect myself from it?
Understanding Spoofing: Spoofing is when fraudsters manipulate caller ID, email addresses, or website URLs to appear legitimate, tricking you into believing you're communicating with a trusted source.
Caller ID/Email Spoofing: Never assume the phone number or email address displayed is accurate.
Website Spoofing: Always verify the URL and domain of a website to ensure its official before entering any information. Look for minor spelling differences in the address.
Verify Directly: If you receive a suspicious call or message, hang up and call the company or agency directly using their official contact information (e.g., the number on the back of your PC Financial® card for financial inquiries).
